Larry’s dreams are so big they will affect your life and the entire world. What does Larry want for you and your life? Larry wants your computer to understand what you want and to give it to you. He wants your car to drive to work for you.
Larry went to university in Michigan and he remembers freezing on the bus stop. Today Larry is the CEO of Google, a 400 billion dollar company, so he can explore his dreams. The google self-drive car has safely clocked over a hundred thousand miles. (I want one!)
Larry’s passion for possibilities is contagious, yet he insists that invention is not enough.

Click To TweetLarry says that wild and wonderful ideas need to be anchored in practical applications that add value in real life. Was it practical to provide every Google employee with a bicycle? Larry enthuses about Google people whizzing around campus, and is an avid biker himself. His vision goes further, and in the Ted Talk he shares a video of bikes operating suspended above the roads, free of traffic.
A villager in Africa demonstrated Larry’s vision for Google search. When Zack Matere’s potato crop began to die, he climbed on a bicycle and rode to the nearest cyber cafe and - you guessed it - Google’d it.
Zack discovered that wood ash was the solution and saved his dying crop. After finding plans for a windmill for a friend, Zack created a bulletin board where people could post requests, allowing him to relay Google results for his entire village. [In essence he brought a static form of the internet to the village]
Larry Page believes that search should understand where you are and what you might want and give it to you, but there are hard questions about privacy. Even your phone knows where you are. Larry is disappointed that Google is in the position of protecting people from intrusion by their own government. When he lost his voice, Larry went public and received lots of useful information about his ailment. He realized that research could be advanced if there was a way to give researchers access to medical information anonymously, to protect people’s privacy.
When you do a Google search your results are affected by your history, your location, and other factors. Google’s Incognito mode allows you to do a search that shows you what others will find, which is different than what you will find.
Teaching computers to know what you want is a futuristic goal.

Google research computers spend hours watching cat videos to learn about cats. It’s complicated because a computer can’t see a cat and has no idea what a cat is.
Computer experience the world in bits and bytes, not purring and litter boxes. The idea of a cat does not exist for a computer, so it has to learn basic concepts to understand a cat. Unfortunately we’re a long way from a robot that will know when to empty the litter box.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO)with Google+: Are you losing SEO by making these 3 mistakes? Capture all the SEO you can!
Search Engine Optimization, commonly called SEO, is not rocket science. It can, however, seem like a foreign language! Together with social it affords you much more visibility. I can help translate it for you and offer some tips for how to capture your full share.
Let’s use the analogy of the ‘Juice jug & cups’.
Think of SEO as the jug and your optimization as the ‘juice’ that gets poured into your cup, where each cup represents a website/blog/splashpage. When the search engines crawl your site, or your profile(s) it’s like putting juice in that specific cup…ONLY if all the information matches completely.
Let me explain.
Mistake #1 : No consistency in your NAP
When you use different forms of your information, i.e. your Name-Address-Phone, on your social profiles, the search engines allocate the ‘juice’ to different cups. This is because the search bots do not understand nuance. They see the changes or differences as another site/blog/page and allocate juice to a new cup. This juice is now wasted, and you aren’t getting the SEO benefits.
What to do instead?
Ensure your name, address and phone are all consistently formatted, across all platforms. When all information matches completely, the juice will be poured into one cup…yours, and you will have captured all the SEO of a properly formatted NAP.
Mistake #2: A Non-Existent/Non-Relevant Profile Photo
These are the common mistakes made with profile photos:
- Forgetting to include a photo for your profile and using the default graphic (In Google+ we call them ‘blueheads’).
- Using a photo of your dog, cat, cartoon, or anything other than yourself.
- Using the number or date tag the photo was shot with to name it.
- Not adding an alt tag that uses your keywords to the photo.
All of these lose you another opportunity for optimization.
What to do instead?
People do business with people they know, like & trust. Give them a face to identify with; recognition helps when they go to your site/blog/page.
- A profile photo needs to be a headshot, preferably one of you actually looking into the camera.
- Save the photo using your name and a relevant keyword.

Mistake #3: Lack of Google Authorship
If you have a personal profile on Google+ and you don’t take the extra step to add the authorship tag to your site/blog/page, you miss out on up to 2 extra lines in search. You also miss out on your gravatar being included in the search results, along with your byline.
What to do instead?
Link your Google+ profile to the content you create on your site/blog/page, as well as content you publish as a guest on other domains.
Please note: Google doesn’t guarantee to show author information in Google Web, however, with authorship tags in place you still get SEO benefit.
- be sure to add all the appropriate links in the Contributor to section on your about tab.
- Make sure a byline containing your name appears on each page of your content (for example, “By Elaine Lindsay”). Make sure your byline name matches the name on your Google+ profile.

I extolled the virtues of What’s Trending, I lauded the depth of posts by some of the worlds top minds, I chuckled about the #caturday pix and swooned over the fabulous photographers. I was in the middle of an explanation of a hangout with the Dalai Lama and Bishop Tutu and I realized that I was now one of those people..
I was an Evangelist!!! Here I am in a box store going gaga for Google+ and shouting it from the rooftops…
